Summer Camp Ardèche, France

6th July 2010

Day before the Descente

With a week at camp under our belts, we near closer to the pinnacle of the 2 week session - the 2 day Grande Descente canoe trip. However prior to that, today has been a day full of activity under the warm summer sun.

Activity Groups 1 and 2 ventured out in the morning to a nearby ropes course. Here they challenged themselves, overcoming various obstacles such as spiders webs, zip lines and wire walking. All whilst taking care clipping themselves into safety!

Les Francais got to try their hand at Rock Climbing, making the sport look easy, encouraging each other, and their French teacher, to get to the top.

The afternoon was a choice activity for all groups, and campers were split evenly over Arts and Crafts and Sports and Swimming. The creative crew painted masks, made origami creatures, and received lessons on sketching from our very own Gary Stow. To show their gratitude, Seffa, Sabrina and Katrina made Gary his very own model snowboard, and the pictures easily indicate how chuffed he was!

Sports saw great competition and many laughs! Games such as Camouflage, Ga Ga Ball, Swiss Ball and swimming.

The evening was spent playing the game Kunkin, (gloriously run and won by Tim!) and preparing for the Grande Descent, packing the minimal essentials for the 2 day adventure (teddy bears included).

The air was alive with excitement at the thought of playing on the river for the coming days and sleeping out under the stars!
