Summer Camp Ardèche, France
Off to a great start
Day one of Summer Camp Session 2 saw the campers straight into action! The campers are split into 3 groups, Activity 1, Activity 2 and Les Francais, and each group experienced their first taste of camp adventure activities, whetting the appetite for action.
Activity groups 1 and 2 each experienced life underground, learning about the intricacies and wonders of a nearby Cave. Having been sent on a search to identify particular features, campers experienced the cave in total darkness before returning to the cave entrance, using only 3 candles between 13 people. And it was a success!
When not in the mountain cave, the group was Rock Climbing, scaling new heights overlooking the pretty nearby village of Salavas. Following training, campers eagerly took on the responsibility of working together to assist others in climbing safely, pushing comfort zones and having a blast. And to top it off, campers were able to pick fruit to and from the climbing site, including plums and mulberries, sun ripened and sweet. Yum!
The campers of Les Francais progressed very fast in their first lesson, covering introductions, conversation, the calendar, and learned a French song which has been created into a piece of art to decorate the eating area!
The afternoon saw the French group learn canoe skills and features of a river, in preparation for the upcoming Mini Descent, where on Thursday all campers will be paddling down stream to the magnificent Pont D'Arc.
For the evening activity, the campers strolled via vineyards and crumbling stone walls into Salavas, as dusk rolled on in for the Monday Night Market. Gifts were bought, and sweets indulged in before the walk back to rest weary heads.
