Summer Camp Leysin, Switzerland

11th July 2010

Arrivals Day, Session 2

Time to begin again. It's another Arrival Day and campers have been arriving steadily throughout the day. A group of counsellors are manning the Village Camps booth at the Geneva Airport and escorting campers from the airport to the Leysin-Feyday railway station. Campers arriving by plane are met at the arrivals door by a Village Camps representative and brought to the booth. Small groups of campers are then taken to the train station at the airport and board the mainline train for a trip along beautiful Lake Geneva, through Lausanne, Montreux, past the Chateau Chillon to the city of Aigle. At Aigle they board the Aigle-Leysin cog railway. Starting in the streets of Aigle, the cog train stops at a Depot and prepares for its steep climb up a mountain slope to Leysin.

Once they arrive at camp campers begin the registration process. Starting at the registration desk they proceed to the camp bank, where they deposit their spending money for safe keeping, the health centre, where they leave health records and any medication, and finally complete registration by meeting their colour group leader. Language campers meet with the teachers who determine their proficiency so that they can be placed into the level that will benefit them the most. Tennis campers and Multi-Activity club campers meet with a representative of their respective groups.

Once registered the campers are shown their rooms and have some time to settle into their home-away-from-home for next two weeks. Throughout Arrivals Day we have a buffet lunch for campers, parents and staff to enjoy. The campers then had the rest of the day to get to know their peers, play games, meet the staff and settle into the building.

Tomorrow camps starts, a full day of fun and activities awaits all the campers.
