Summer Camp Leysin, Switzerland

4th August 2012

Excursion Day!

Today was excursion day! It was a chance for all the campers to leave Leysin for the entire day and explore some of the surrounding sights. The Greens and Yellows began their day at the Tropiquarium, over 100 species of tortoises, reptiles and tropical birds live there all year round. Crocodiles, penguin colonies, varanus, geckos, giant turtles and tropical birds can be admired in five buildings, aviaries and hothouses. After an animal frenzy the campers had a chance to shop in Vevey, A picturesque town over looking Lake Geneva.

The Reds started their day at the Cailler Chocolate Factory, imagination is paired with presentations on the different stages in the Cailler chocolate production process, which are relayed as part of the interactive audiovisual guided tour. The past also comes to life through a selection of photographs that retrace the factory's history from its humble origins in 1898 right up to the 1960s. After indulging in chocolate the Reds had a chance to shop in the beautiful city of Lausanne.

The Blues jumped aboard a bus and headed down the valley to Bex, where they had an underground tour of a very impressive salt mine. The campers saw the various techniques of salt mining from the year 1684 to the present and the history of this white gold. A small mine train took them into the subterranean world, deep in the mountain at a depth of 400 meters. After an extraordinary tour the campers had some time to shop in Lausanne. After refueling with food the Blue headed to Fun Planet where they could bowl, go kart and play arcade games.

The Evening was very relaxing after a long day of excitement, the Greens and Yellows all settled down to separate Movie Nights with popcorn and Ice-Tea and the Reds were taking to the ice in an evening of ice skating. Everyone had a an amazing day out and a fun filled evening.
