All smiles at camp
Our wonderful group of campers today switched roles on yesterday, seeing Activity Group 2 and the French group get wet and adventurous in the depths of a river canyon of the Cevennes. There was much excitement as our troops descended through the gorge, sliding, jumping and swimming against a dramatic backdrop. Highlights included abseiling down through a waterfall, and managing to keep ones lunch dry with tightly sealed containers - hooray!
Meanwhile, back at base camp, Activity Group 1 and several of Activity Group 2 began the day with games and Ga Ga Ball, a fierce game of dodge ball to get the energy going. Then working together for success was the driver for the next activity, Arboreal Antics Adventure! Campers succeeded to support and hold safety for each other to climb the tree, then lower the climber gently down a zip line to solid ground. The group cooled off afterward, rock jumping into the river with enthusiasm!
Canoe lessons filled the afternoon, learning skills to prepare campers for the up coming canoe expeditions. Campers learned how to maneuver their canoe in pairs, each with a single blade paddle, and how to read rivers, learning terms like eddys, downstream V's, and rapids. And no lesson is complete with a myriad of games, including Rock Tag, Thunder Run, Collect the Otter Egg. Most impressive was the element of support amongst the group, with the older campers assisting the smaller ones when needing, and everyone pitching in to get work done.
Another delicious meal was served up with thanks to our chef Andrew, and the evening activity an energetic (and competitive) game of Kunkin! It has been a very physical day for all, leaving campers ready for a sound night sleep in the beautiful Ardeche.
