Summer Camp England
The first day.
Monday was the first day at Village Camps for the second session! Newly arrived campers along with many campers returning from last year, finally got to experience the exciting day filled with many activities.
After campers went to breakfast, they all met at the Secret Garden and broke off into their programmes. Even though the weather was not cooperative, the football continued with their morning session. After lunch, campers had some free time where they got to relax as well as get ready for the afternoon activities. At 1:15pm campers met at the Secret Garden yet again, to go off to their activities that they have signed up for the night before! There were many different activities to choose from for Session C. Ultimate frisbee, tennis, football, make up and beauty were just some of the options that day. Just as Session C was coming to an end, it was time for the first all camp meeting that starts at 3pm.
There were many different things that happened at the meeting. The first and most important was the discussion of the Village Camp rules. Glenn Carpenter, the director of the camp, took the stage and invited several campers who spoke other languages to join him on the stage so that they can translate all the rules in their native tongue. That way there is no confusion about the rules of camp. After that, several staff read outloud some secret friends messages that campers wrote to each other. But the best part of the meeting had to be the most popular court in the world! The Kangaroo Court, of course! There were three naughty defendants that got prosecuted for their silly acts.
After the all-camp meeting, the colour groups split off with their counsellors for a tour around camp. They were shown the different buildings where all the activities would be happening throughout the two weeks. After the tour, it was time for dinner! Kids had a great meal that always includes an amazing salad bar and a desert. After dinner, campers had some free time to chill out either outside, in their rooms or the common rooms that has a pool table, a ping pong table and a Foosball game.
When free time was over, it was time to get ready for the first evening activity. All the colours went off to different areas of the campus to play different kind of games. Many of these games are called "icebreakers" for kids to start learning each other's names and sharing the different interests they might have. But the best part of the night had to be the introduction to the best game in the world! This game is the most important game of the whole camp because it is played during Big Day. The game involves the whole colour group that involves outsmarting and outrunning your opponent. After a great game of Kunkin, campers returned to their accommodation where they got to relax before heading off to bed. Overall, it was a busy day as usual where campers participated in many different activities.
